Mountain Gorilla Safari – 5 Days & 4 Nights

This 5 days and 4 nights safari takes you to explore Mountain Gorillas

Day 1:

Upon arrival at Kigali Airport you will be met by our private guide with his/her four wheeler vehicle from where you set your trip to Gorilla Mountain View Lodge where you would be making your stay for 4 nights. The drive would be towards north-east for about 2 hours and would be driving through beautiful hills and busy market place and reach the stunning Volcanoes National Park. The Volcanoes National Park is well known for its Dian Fossey’s pioneering studies of the mountain gorillas. Your 4 night stay for this trip would be at the comfortable Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. This lodge is near the beautiful park boundary and there is also a beautiful garden inside the lodge where you can spend your time relaxing before setting to explore the national park.

Day 2:

Early morning you would start your trip to explore and track the golden monkeys. These animals are able to move easily and quickly, endangered and beautiful. They make their home on the lower slope of the mountain in bamboo thickets. So in your exploration for these golden monkeys you have to adapt to the slight altitude before moving higher to the altitude for gorilla watching.

Day 3:

Early morning you will be driven to the park headquarters to have a briefing about today’s hiking plans. Then you would start your day with hiking into the rainforest to meet the beautiful mountain gorillas. To track the location your group would have a 24 hour guard. You can spend nearly an hour watching and observing the gorillas at a very close distance often as little as 7m. This close watching of gorillas gives you unforgettable experience. Since the gorillas are watched by visitors at a close distance there is risk of passing infection to gorillas if visitors have them. So travels who are ill is not allowed for gorilla trekking,

Day 4:

This is the final day of your trip and on this day you again make your drive to track and view another troop of beautiful mountain gorillas for taking with you the unforgettable experience. If you visit the forest during dry season the path would be good but if you make your visit to the forest during west season the forest path would be challenging with steep sections. The troops on this day are divided into sections. The lower group can be hiked within or less than 90 minutes. As you move higher the hiking would be more difficult and time consuming taking about three to four hours. The beautiful gentle gorillas have longcoats to protect themselves as they make their living in high altitude. After reaching the gorillas, they move very fast say about 1km per day for a group.

Day5:

After finishing your relaxing breakfast and having a final view of the park’s environs you would be driving with your private guide in a 4WD vehicle south-east for about two hours to reach Kigali Airport. From this place you can continue your journey, either home or to your next destination with unforgettable memories carried from this trekking.
